Take a look at The Line – a curious project of a city planned to be built in Saudi Arabia. The crown prince Mohammed bin Salman announced the city's design on Monday, although the initial idea was presented last year.
The Line, which will be constructed as part of the Neom project, is meant to be an environment free from roads, cars, and emissions.
"It will run on 100% renewable energy and prioritize people's health and well-being over transportation and infrastructure as in traditional cities. It puts nature ahead of development and will contribute to preserving 95% of NEOM’s land," states the announcement.
The Line will be 200 meters (about 220 yards) wide, 170 kilometers (105 miles) long, and 500 meters (545 yards) above sea level. The project aims to accommodate 9 million people, who will have access to all facilities within a five-minute walk and a high-speed rail with an end-to-end transit of 20 minutes.
One of the most interesting features of the city is its outer mirror facade "that will provide its unique character and allow even its small footprint to blend with nature." Its design will be digitized, and the construction industrialized by "advancing construction technologies and manufacturing processes."
