The Mysterious TGA Statue Turns Out to be a Teaser For a New Divinity Game
According to Larian Studios, it won't be Divinity: Original Sin III.
The mysterious statue placed in the Mojave Desert a week ago by The Game Awards organizers as part of a promo-ARG of some sort – initially believed by many to be hinting at everything from The Elder Scrolls VI to Half-Life 3 – now appears almost certainly to be teasing a new Divinity game, according to three recently filed trademarks from an unknown owner.
First spotted by MP1st, the trademarks show what appears to be a new Divinity logo – with the "I" eye in it looking almost identical to the one on the statue – along with a couple of icons, one of which looks exactly like the statue's "tentacles," making it all but certain that the title The Game Awards team has gone above and beyond to promote is a new Divinity game from Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios.
As for Larian itself, although the studio hasn't officially commented on the discovery and will likely maintain the suspense until the announcement during the show – presumably as its final, "biggest" reveal Keighley does every year – Larian's Director of Publishing, Michael "Cromwelp" Douse, did comment that they have no plans for Divinity: Original Sin III, indicating the new game won't continue the previous two installments and will be either an entirely new entry or a remake/remaster of some of the previous ones.
Beyond that, your guess is as good as mine as to what the new title will be about – heck, it's not impossible that Divinity: Fallen Heroes was resurrected behind the scenes thanks to the huge volume of cash Larian has made from BG3 sales. The only way to know for sure is to tune in to the upcoming The Game Awards ceremony, taking place this Thursday, December 11, at 7:30 PM ET | 4:30 PM PT.
So, what do you think about the statue ARG turning out to be a Divinity teaser? Are you excited or disappointed that this is the game the ceremony's organizers were hyping? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
