The shutdown will take place because of structural changes at Funcom.
The Outsiders
David Goldfarb, the founder and Creative Director at The Outsiders, best known for the rhythm FPS Metal: Hellsinger, shared that the studio will be closed because of job cuts at Funcom.
Goldfarb shared the news on his Bluesky account. The developer said that the team members at The Outsiders and Funcom Stockholm were affected by the layoffs, adding that he "had not much time to process the news." The Outsiders studio worked for 10 years, and once, it had previously been on the verge of closure, when its horror RPG Darkborn was canceled in 2020. The creator noted that the team's "loyalty and refusal to quit" made it possible to create Metal: Hellsinger. He also expressed gratitude for the studio's "wonderful team and partnerships" that helped bring its projects to life.
Recently, Funcom announced that a wave of layoffs is underway, which is likely the same one that affected the studio.
