The True Path: a First-Person Horror Game Powered by Unreal Engine 5

Indie game developer Cursed Eyes shared their visions for the project.

Indie game developer Cursed Eyes shares a creative way to enter the next level in The True Path, a horror game created in Unreal Engine 5.

As you’re exploring an indoor playground, probably after the business hour, as it’s all dark without the light of your torch. All of a sudden, a creepy laugh makes you trot a few steps before looking back. You are frightened by a clown with an evil smile jumping and bringing you to the next level, an abandoned house covered in spider webs.

The immersive first-person perspective and photorealistic environments, coupled with the fear evoked by the dark, gloomy playground, create an overwhelming experience in this horror title.

It’s unknown when the project started, and it could still be in the early development period, as the developer only started sharing game footage around August. In a reply, the developer mentioned their plan for this project, saying they will “focus solely on fear, graphics, and a good story, without any boring puzzles.”

There are a few more videos from the game that help us understand the game’s narrative, gameplay, and mechanics. For example, this intro video explains the basic storyline and how everything started with a patient going crazy with a high level of anxiety after a test failed. You, as the man who talks, gradually lose consciousness as the patient gets closer to you. That somehow increases my level of fear and drives me to learn what’s going to happen next.

For horror games, a certain amount of jump scares would not hurt that much. Even with a plain text reminder that this clip is about the latest jump scare in the game, I still got scared. So, it’s up to you if you’d like to play the video below:

The game features various entertainment facilities and elements and here is what the merry-go-round looks like. I really like how the change in soundtrack enhances immersion. It serves as a portal; at some point, players will be transported elsewhere.

The game doesn’t have a Steam page for those who want to wishlist it yet, but the developer is probably in the process of creating one. We recommend you follow them on X/Twitter to learn more about this game.
