Witcher 4 Will Soon Enter the "Full-Fledged Production" Period

"Its development team is nearing a major milestone which will mark the end of the preproduction phase."

CD PROJEKT

Polish developer CD PROJEKT says Project Polaris’ development has made “substantial progress” and will soon end the preproduction phase to enter the “full-fledged production phase.” This is according to a statement that looks back at the first half of 2024 and provides some updates on the major projects under development.

“Work on Polaris is progressing – its development team is nearing a major milestone which will mark the end of the preproduction phase,” says Michał Nowakowski, Joint CEO of CD PROJEKT.

Announced in 2022, codenamed Polaris, which is the next installment in The Witcher franchise and the "most advanced" game ever created by CDPR, is developed using Unreal Engine instead of the REDengine that had been the choice for the previous two titles. In addition to using a different engine, CDPR also planned to bring a plethora of brand-new gameplay elements and mechanics, so players will enjoy some fresh experiences rather than simply “a Witcher 3 in new clothing.”

Meanwhile, Michał Nowakowski also praised the work of Boston Studio, which consists of CD Project veterans and newly hired employees. In the first half of 2024, they have been working intensively to build a solid foundation for Project Orion, which is "a new game set in the Cyberpunk universe."
