"There is no cooperation at all between me and the games."
CDPR
The Witcher's popularity nowadays is linked to either the games or the Netflix show, but let's not forget where it all started: on the pages of Andrzej Sapkowski's books.
Despite being the original creator of the universe, we now know that he isn't involved much with CDPR's RPG, but I doubt he misses it much, as the writer has never played the games and has no plans to start; not because he has a grudge against CDPR, but because "it's not an entertainment for me," he shared with GamesRadar+.
His answer hasn't changed since 2023, when he said he had no time for gaming, and the Witcher franchise will definitely eat a lot of it.
Perhaps it's for the best that CDPR doesn't bother him with questions and lets him do what he actually finds fun.
"There is no cooperation at all between me and the games," he shared. "Right now, if they ask me about something, it's so rare that it's not worth mentioning."
As GR+ mentioned, this peaceful co-existence has not always been the case: in 2019, CD Projekt Red settled a lawsuit with Sapkowski after The Witcher 3 got more successful than expected, so the author wanted $16 million in royalties.
Hopefully, we won't hear any dramatic stories, and CDPR will release The Witcher 4 as intended.
