This 3D Spider-Verse Animation Took 400 Hours to Set Up

The artist utilized Maya and Adobe software to achieve a comic book-like style.

Have a look at this amazing comic book-style 3D animation of Miles Morales battling a monster to get his phone back, created by 3D Animator Kevin Portillo. Inspired by the Spider-Verse movies' art style, the sequence was set up in Maya, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro using Agora.Community's Miles rig and model, Kiel Figgins' monster and web rigs, and Shadrak Guichard-Foster's VFX rigs. According to Kevin, it took him around 400 hours to finish the project.

"First, I start looking for a bunch of references and I create a board on Pinterest with a lot of poses from comics, fan illustrations, movies, etc.," commented the artist on his production process. "Then, I started with the storyboard using the poses to create a story (this was the most difficult and time-consuming).

Then, I worked on the layout in Maya, where I checked camera movements, timing, and golden poses with the rigs. After I was happy with it, I started with the animation, blocking, polishing, and baking. Then, I went to Photoshop to add the 2D VFX and draw all the comic book effects. Finally, I made some little post in Premiere Pro, added some sounds, and hit render."
