Edin Spiegel also explained how he achieved this, right down to the dye particles.
Edin Spiegel took on the ambitious task of replicating the look of photographic film in Blender and released Accurate Film Simulation, an add-on that recreates the look of film stocks like Kodak Portra 400, Kodak Ektar 100, Kodak Gold 200, and Kodak Tri-X 320.
He also shared a video breaking down how he achieved this, simulating not only the colors of the film but the physical properties, down to the dye particles.
The add-on includes two versions, one uses Geometry Nodes for the most accurate color, based on real film data like spectral sensitivity curves. This version also simulates the actual dye particles. The Compositor one is faster and more convenient to use, and it employs procedural noise to create film grain.
