The generator is set to hit the shelves in the coming days.
Check out Endless, an impressive upcoming add-on developed by John Mcmahon that allows you to generate infinite terrain with distinct biomes directly in Unity.
According to the developer, this system makes use of both the burst compiler and the jobs package to produce highly efficient terrain at runtime. It's noteworthy that the process is entirely deterministic, similar to Minecraft, as it generates worlds from a seed.
Moreover, the generator includes features such as procedural texturing, object placement, global roads and rivers, structure stamping, and more. The author emphasizes that biomes are distributed throughout the map and seamlessly blended through gradient noise, with all terrain objects functioning as interactable GameObjects.
"I've been working on this iteration for about three months now," commented John. "Performance is quite good, even faster than I was expecting to accomplish. On my i7-11700F it runs at about 80 FPS, and most of that is rendering, unrelated to generation. Generating one chunk takes ~6-7ms, which would equate to about 142 FPS if it was the only thing running."
As stated by the author, the generator is set to hit the shelves in the coming days. We highly encourage you to check out John's YouTube and Discord pages so as not to miss the release.
