3D Modeler and Animator Andy Cuccaro continues to impress the audience with unusual Blender-made 3D character rigs, showcasing a brand-new setup that looks and acts like a dedicated program for character creation and prototyping.
Inspired by Olov Burman's projects, the rig allows the artist to quickly customize the head and fingers of a stylized 3D character model, move and rotate different parts of the face, change the position of fingers, and more. To make it possible, Andy used the Shrinkwrap Modifier on the floaters and the Shrinkwrap Constraint on the controller, as well as a boolean for the floater on the mouth, which can change its location in real-time thanks to the fact that the lips mesh has an inside.
Andy has also recommended checking out this Blender Artist thread to those interested in the behind-the-scenes of the rig.
At the moment, the creator is already working on a "bit more complex/advanced" version of the rig featuring more realistic-looking eyes. We highly encourage you to follow Andy on Twitter so as not to miss any future updates.
Previously, the artist also wowed us by presenting a dedicated head rig that could automatically move the ears on a 3D head of Mickey Mouse depending on Mickey's rotation and position relative to the camera to make them appear as two black circles like in the classic 2D cartoons.
