This is What Shrek Could Have Looked Like In Real Life

Henning Sanden showcased a 3D take on the world's most revered ogre.

Henning Sanden, a Senior 3D Artist and Co-Founder of FlippedNormals, has recently imagined what Shrek could have looked like in real life or a live-action adaptation, showcasing a more realistic 3D take on the world's most beloved ogre.

Albeit quite creepy at first glance, Henning's version of the character stays true to DreamWorks' Shrek, retaining the character's most recognizable features, such as green skin and protruding ears. The portrait's other features, like the scarred chin and Stanley Kubrick-like eyes, on the other hand, make the character look more like its original version from William Steig's 1990 book, where the character actually looks like a monster and not a jolly green giant from the movies that we all know and love.

According to the author, the portrait was created using Maya and ZBrush for modeling and sculpting, Mari for texturing, and Arnold for rendering. You can find the original post by visiting Henning's LinkedIn page.

Back in September, this character was also featured in the artist's "ZBrush to Arnold Vector Displacement" tutorial, which covers all the steps for setting up a vector displacement map from ZBrush in Arnold with UDIMS. You can read the full tutorial on FlippedNormals.
