Nicolas Roth's secret is that there are no secrets.
3D Animator Nicolas Roth published a nice jacket simulation that looks amazingly fluid when the character, Vesper, flicks the collar.
"Wondering what magic trick I used to get this cloth sim just right? Sometimes the simplest answer is: no tricks, just letting the physics do the work!"
However, there are some tips you can use to make sure the clothes work just right. Roth revealed that he used the whole character as a collider, animating and exporting it as alembic, and then he ran the simulation in Marvelous Designer.
"In the beginning the fingers missed the collar, so I exported the cloth and went back to Blender and adjusted the position of the fingers to match the position of the collar."

To avoid glitches, Roth made sure the fingers didn't touch each other: there is a small gap between them. "Then I increased the friction of the collider and also of the fabric. What also helps is to increase the Simulation Quality and the Mesh Resolution," he said.
Roth is a master of smooth animation, and you can see it in the mixed media sequence STARTAFIGHT he created in collaboration with Digital Artist Boris, a.k.a. handsome_boris.
