This New Indie Game is The Mario Kart Maker That Nintendo Refuses to Create
If you grew up playing Mario Kart like me, this game will probably make you feel nostalgic.
Mythic Kart Maker is a low-poly combat racing game developed and published by Dream Mix Games, and it looks just like the Mario Kart Maker a lot of us have been dreaming of for years.
The game also has fantasy elements, allows you to build your own tracks while driving, and share them with your friends.
Being able to lay out courses in real-time while driving your vehicle, instead of relegating that feature to an overhead view, is a great idea. This way, you'll get a feel for how the course actually plays while you're building it.
Some fans have pointed out that it reminds them of ModNation Racers, an oft-forgotten PS3 kart racer that heavily featured user-generated content elements as well.
You can check a video the developer shared on X/Twitter. The developer has also been active already with fixes, updates, and new content, which is a great sign for an Early Access game.
The game is expected to remain in Early Access for about one year.
You are also able to add your own custom music to courses, with different characters and cars. There's definitely plenty of nostalgia here if you grew up playing the original Super Mario Kart on SNES or Mario Kart 64 on N64.
The game is available on Steam right now in Early Access.
