This Psychological Horror Game Delves into Social Media's Dark Side

BrokenLore: FOLLOW is part of the BrokenLore trilogy, a Japanese-style horror game franchise developed by Serafini Productions.

BrokenLore: FOLLOW

Serafini Productions, a video game development studio based in Japan, has recently launched a free demo for BrokenLore: FOLLOW, a spine-chilling first-person psychological horror game.

The game plunges you into a distressed psyche of Anne. As she struggles with self-doubt, faces the agony of bullying, and wrestles with feelings of worthlessness, you will encounter surreal, metaphorical creatures that intensify the horror of her journey.

Below you can check out the game's main features

  • Traverse unsettling environments and solve puzzles
  • Piece together Anne's troubled story
  • Evade the terrifying creatures that lurk in the darkness

According to the developer, FOLLOW was developed in partnership with psychologist Emanuela Papa, aiming to accurately portray the profound themes embedded in the game.

BrokenLore: FOLLOW serves as the prequel to UNFOLLOW, a saga that delves into the dark side of social media, as inferred from its name. UNFOLLOW is slated for a 2024 release and also offers a free demo available for trial on Steam. Let's check out its demo trailer here:

BrokenLore: UNFOLLOW

The developer seems to be working on the three games of the franchise simultaneously, and the third game is titled BrokenLore: LOW. Set in the isolated Japanese village of Kirisame Mura (Village of the Mist), LOW explores the ominous prelude of UNFOLLOW's story.

Looking at all three games together, one thing is obvious — the horror elements in the franchise bear the unique Japanese style. A ceramic doll reminiscent of Little Red Riding Hood having its innocent eyes fixed on you with one hand reaching out to touch you, a pale face probably wearing a geisha mask chilling down my spine, a typical Japanese residential community in a rainy dark night and the iconic shrines of Japan — all immersing you in a distinctively Japanese world.

If you're a fan of horror games, particularly those with a Japanese backdrop, don't hesitate to give them a try. And you can follow the developer on Twitter to be informed of any updates regarding the franchise.
