This Smooth Eel Rig Was Made in Unreal Engine 5 For an Upcoming Game

Mamoru Kano's collection of digital river monsters gets an awesome new specimen.

Less than two weeks after unveiling his terrifying colossal catfish rig, Game Developer and Animator Mamoru Kano has expanded his collection of digital river monsters once again with a captivating new addition: a gigantic, snake-like eel created for Otoshi no Shima, an upcoming exploration game inspired by the folklore of Japan's Tohoku region.

Similar to the previously mentioned catfish rig, the newly created eel rig features smooth movements and stable undulations, with the creature's entire body responding dynamically and realistically to the head's motions. As before, Mamoru utilized Unreal Engine 5's Control Rig, a comprehensive suite of animation tools that allows for rigging and animating models directly within the engine, to bring the beast to life.

Previously, Mamoru also impressed us with a stunning animation of an enormous snake slithering through a swamp and coiling around itself, as well as an eerie sequence of the same snake appearing from under the water:

And here are some of the developer's most recent Otoshi no Shima showcases:
