Thrilling Godzilla Animations to Celebrate Godzilla Minus One's Oscars Win

CG Artist Gonzou leverages UE5 to create breathtaking kaiju fights in 3D.

Today, to celebrate Godzilla Minus One's remarkable triumph in the VFX category at the 2024 Academy Awards, let's take a look at some of the incredible 3D animations dedicated to the most iconic kaiju in history, produced by Japanese CG Artist Gonzou.

Specializing in 3D animation and VFX, Gonzou stands out as arguably the most devoted Godzilla enthusiast on the planet, with 80-90% of their Twitter activity revolving around the iconic reptile. Therefore, when the artist got the hang of 3D software, it was only natural for them to focus on Godzilla-inspired projects.

To set up their action-packed 3D kaiju fighting sequences, the author usually utilizes a combination of Unreal Engine 5, marketplace assets, Mixamo, and Adobe Premiere Pro, as well as ByNEET's character models. The main tool Gonzou uses for animation is UE5's Control Rig, a suite of animation tools that lets you rig and animate characters directly in-engine.

At the moment, the creator is looking for a job in the CG industry, a job that should, preferably, involve Godzilla in one way or another. So, if you are working on a Godzilla movie and need a talented Animator to handle fighting scenes, you can contact Gonzou on Twitter.

And here are some of the author's earlier works:

Speaking of Godzilla, earlier, 3D Animator Nelson Escobar honored Godzilla Minus One winning Japan's first Best Visual Effects Oscar by sharing a great and realistic 3D model of Godzilla, which you can download for free.
