Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 Gets Hacked Mere Hours After Its Steam Release

Allegedly, the removal of Denuvo enabled hackers to pirate the game.

In case you missed it, earlier this week, Activision released Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, a remastered collection of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 skateboarding simulators, on Steam, ending the three-year-long period of Epic Games Store exclusivity, which lasted ever since the game debuted on PC back in 2020.

For some reason, however, the Steam version of the simulator omitted Denuvo, an anti-tampering and digital rights management system that was originally part of the game's Epic Games Store release. While Denuvo has been a subject of controversy, it undeniably serves its primary purpose by making it significantly more challenging for hackers to pirate games featuring this DRM protection.

Interestingly, it seems that Activision's decision to forgo Denuvo has already had consequences, as according to a recent report, the Steam version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 was cracked mere hours after its release.

As stated by the CrackWatch Twitter account, the simulator was allegedly breached by a hacking group known as RUNE, which had previously claimed to have cracked Bethesda's Starfield only a few hours after its early access launch. Thus far, Activision has not provided any official comments regarding whether the omission of Denuvo was intentional or an oversight.
