Transparent Trees Effect Set Up in Unity

The effect was made for the upcoming action RPG The Milk Lake.

Solo Game Developer known as Boltzmann Games has released a brand-new demo showcasing the development process behind The Milk Lake, an upcoming atmospheric Unity-powered action RPG that promises to feature an impressive dark fantasy art style, a combination of frantic and time-dependent combat, and gigantic Shadow of the Colossus-style enemies.

This time, the developer showed a neat effect that turns the game's trees transparent whenever they are located between the player character and the third-person camera, allowing you to see the protagonist even if she is behind the tree. According to the creator, this solution is only a temporary measure and will be further rethought and refined down the line.

I still think I can get a good solution without the need for this, but camera stuff is super hard, so think of this as a failsafe," comments the developer. "Hopefully, I'll circle back in the future and make something that dodges trees and still feels good."
