Travel Through Twisted Fairytales in This Upcoming Hand-Drawn Isometric Adventure

"These are not the tales you were told."

With Murals, a newly unveiled isometric action-adventure from Dlala Studios, you can take a fresh look at your favorite fairytales you've known since childhood and embark on an adventure in their twisted, distorted versions. The game is in development and will be released on PC in 2027.

"Sleeping Beauty hasn't slept in weeks, Rapunzel's hair is trying to kill her, and Rumpelstiltskin is... really into theater?" The game drops players into a twisted fairytale castle with no memories of who they are, accompanied only by a sentient sketch character as their guide.

The crooked castles, deceitful forests, and living mazes are brought to life through beautiful hand-drawn graphics and challenge players with fast-paced, customizable combat, combining melee and ranged weapons and including peculiar objects like talking swords, dwarven gloves, and mystical dragon blasters.

"We've been really focused on making sure that the combat feels great and gives players the freedom to experiment and find their own unique setups to battle our baddies," Aj Grand-Scutton, Dlala Studios' CEO and Game Director, says.

Revealed during gamescom's Opening Night Live broadcast, the game marks the first original IP created by Dlala Studios since 2014; the team is known for projects such as Battletoads (2020) and Disney Illusion Island (2023).

"Not only are we taking advantage of the creative freedom that entails, but we're also publishing Murals ourselves. It's all on our shoulders this time around, and we couldn't be more excited," shares Marcus Purvis, Dlala’s Head of Publishing.
