Perfect for space lovers, curious minds, and STEM educators, Cosmic XR offers detailed planet and moon models for up-close exploration.
Cosmic XR was born from designer and creative technologist Yoon Park's passion for space and the desire to let people not just observe but reach out and interact with planets, moons, and other celestial wonders to touch, rotate, and scale them, as if they were right in front of them.
Over the past few years, he brought this vision to life during weekends and spare moments, and now, Cosmic XR is available for everyone. Explore the structure that links galaxies across the universe, gaze upon distant galaxies, and journey through the Milky Way, Andromeda, and our very own Solar System. Take a closer look at the details of each planet and enter Sagittarius A*, the black hole at the center of our galaxy.
For those familiar with HoloLens, much of this app is inspired by the open-source Galaxy Explorer project, which played a crucial role in shaping many aspects of this experience. As a solo project, there's also still plenty of room for improvement, both technically, visually, and in terms of content. However, Yoon Park wanted to share it now, hoping it sparks a sense of curiosity and wonder in anyone who tries it.
If you're into space and immersive experiences, you can explore the app without making a purchase through the Try Before You Buy feature on the Meta Quest Store. Cosmic XR is compatible with Quest 2, 3, 3S, and Pro.
