Two Ubisoft studios, Massive Entertainment, known for The Division series, and Ubisoft RedLynx, the creators behind the Trails franchise, are set to experience job cuts.
Massive Entertainment, the Ubisoft subsidiary known for titles such as Star Wars Outlaws and The Division, announced the staff reductions in a recent X/Twitter post, stating that one of the goals of the restructuring is ensuring the continued focus on The Division franchise:
"As part of our ongoing evolution and long-term planning, we have recently realigned our teams and resources to strengthen our roadmap, ensuring our continued focus on The Division franchise and the technologies, including Snowdrop and Ubisoft Connect, that power our games."
The studio also noted that to conduct the transition responsibly, it implements a "voluntary career transition program," which enables "eligible team members" to continue their career and supports them with a "comprehensive package that includes financial and career assistance." As the statement reads, the studio "remains fully committed to their roadmap" and continues to work on their titles, including The Division 2, The Division 2: Survivors, The Division Resurgence, and The Division 3.
The specific number of affected employees is not stated. According to Le Figaro (via Insider Gaming), employees affected are those on permanent contracts who are currently awaiting reassignment to a new project, for instance, after their previous video game has already been released.
At Ubisoft RedLynx, the layoffs are expected to impact up to 60 employees. The parent company announced a restructuring proposal for the studio, aimed "to simplify, reduce costs, and ensure a stronger prioritization and efficiency across the company's worldwide studio network." If introduced, the proposed changes would shift Ubisoft RedLynx's focus from a multiplatform approach to specializing in mobile and other small-screen projects.
