Ubisoft Allegedly Interrupts Gameplay with Pop-Up Ads

Is it a bug or a new approach to ads in their games?

UPD: Ubisoft has responded to the situation, claiming that the pop-up ad for Assassin's Creed Mirage was caused by a technical glitch.

It seems that Ubisoft might be considering a new approach to ads in their games, potentially introducing them during real-time gameplay. Unlike the common practice of advertising new games and content in a game's main menu, these ads have been reported to interrupt gameplay in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. A recent tweet from a user showed a pop-up advertisement for Assassin's Creed Mirage that appeared while playing the game.

This raised some concerns about the impact of such ads on the gaming experience. Interruptions during gameplay can disrupt the flow and potentially make players quit the game. While it makes sense that Ubisoft wants to promote Assassin's Creed Mirage, given its successful launch and ongoing sales, the use of in-game advertising may become very annoying for players.

It is unclear whether the ads appeared in the purchased version of Assassin's Creed Odyssey or in the version available through a Ubisoft+ game subscription. However, many players express their strong disapproval of this form of advertising. Some users said that even a single instance of encountering such a banner would be enough for them to consider deleting the game altogether.

Well, others say that the ad could have been a result of a bug rather than an intentional implementation. Whatever the cause is, such ads during gameplay remain frustrating for players. It is important for game developers and publishers to strike a balance between promotional efforts and preserving the immersive experience that gamers seek.

I'm not sure what irritates me more: the fact that they did this or the fact that offered such a blatant lie as an explanation and expected us all to believe it.

it might be just a base purchase version of the game, 'ad-free experience' is usually tied in to subscription services e.g youtube premium, twitch turbo etc

They honestly thought we wouldn't notice/care, then decided its best to lie! One of the worst game companies today.
