Two new Far Cry games are reportedly in development at Ubisoft. That's according to industry insider Tom Henderson who, citing his own sources, claims that the company is currently working on the next main installment in the series and a multiplayer-only title.
Henderson says that the two titles were originally planned as one game, but were split into two separate projects during early development.
Ubisoft Montreal allegedly has significant involvement in the two projects, which are internally referred to as "Project Blackbird" and "Project Maverick". The first project, known as "Project Blackbird", is believed to be Far Cry 7, while the second one, known as "Project Maverick", is thought to be a multiplayer game.
According to Henderson, not much is known about the two projects but Project Maverick is described as an extraction-based shooter set in the Alaskan wilderness that features gameplay elements such as permadeath, a backpack system, contracts, and more.
