Ubisoft Makes For Honor Free to Keep Forever

For Honor – Standard Edition is now free on Ubisoft Connect. The standard edition of the PvP melee battler includes a base game and 14 characters. You can choose a single-player story mode or a multiplayer mode.

In the game, you can pick a hero you want to play as. All of them have their unique weapons and fighting styles. In multiplayer mode, you can start a 1v1, 2v2, or a massive team-based 4v4 battle. There are 5 different factions to pledge allegiance to and fight for – Knight, Samurai, Viking, Wu Lin, and Outlanders. The game has over 30 heroes and thousands of gear items.

Almost sounds too good to be free, doesn't it? Many players think the generous offer is Ubisoft's attempt to slap a band-aid over a bunch of issues left unaddressed. The biggest one is the recent removal of the game from Steam Deck and Linux as a way to control cheating in battles. The anti-cheat update removed a huge number of PC players permanently, making it impossible for non-cheating Linux users to access the game.

Another thing many players point out is that 10 years in, the game still has flaws at the base level. The game is still online-only, offering no offline campaigns, even in the solo mode. Plus, with all the complex mechanics to master and heroes to learn, the game has an annoyingly steep learning curve – so much so that the developers recommend watching several YouTube tutorials before stepping onto the battlefield.

Others, however, praise the game for its dynamic feel, the versatility of combat tactics, and the unmatched emotional intensity of the gameplay. Many players compare it to a toxic relationship that you can't (and don't really want to) escape. "The combat makes me question my life choices, the matchmaking feels like psychological warfare, and somehow every single loss makes me want to play another game," a user wrote on Steam.
