The development of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake shifted to Ubisoft Montreal, the studio behind the original title. The approximate release date of the game is still unknown.
In a statement shared on Tuesday, Ubisoft announced that its Montreal studio has taken over the development of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. Previously, Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai had been working on the game, and now it has shifted back to the creators of the original title.
The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was announced two years ago, and was expected to be released in 2021. The game then was delayed twice: first, from January to March 2021, and later it was postponed indefinitely.
Now, the devs wrote that Ubisoft Montreal is using groundwork previously done by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai saying that the development "will now take the time [the developers] need to regroup on the scope of the game".
They thanked the fans for waiting and stressed that they want to provide them with the best gaming experience from the remake. Although it is still unclear when the updated action game will see the light of day.
In late March, insider Tom Henderson reported that Ubisoft is working on a new Prince of Persia, the title which is described as a 2.5D game inspired by the Ori franchise. According to him, the title will be developed by Ubisoft Montpellier (France) with the participation of other studios of the company and can be announced during Ubisoft's big games showcase event in 2022.
