Ubisoft's Lead Animator Shares a WIP Look at Assassin's Creed Mirage

Ave Espelita showed how one of the game's combat finishers looked during production.

Lead Animator at Ubisoft Philippines Ave Espelita, who previously wowed us with an amazing Jinx dancing animation, has recently published an exciting demo providing a behind-the-scenes look at the most recent installment in the Assassin's Creed series – the 2023 Assassin's Creed Mirage.

In the demo, the artist showcased the in-progress state of one of the game's smooth combat finisher animations, noting that out of all the sequences in Assassin's Creed Mirage that he had the pleasure to work on, this one is his favorite. According to one of Ave's earlier ArtStation posts, the animation was set up in MotionBuilder, Autodesk's lesser-known 3D character animation software.

Besides the showcased combat finisher, Ave was also responsible for many crowd life animations, the blow dart animation set, and some of the game's air strike animations. Attached below is an earlier demo showing some of the in-game sequences the author worked on:

If you would like to learn more about Ave's artistic journey and production workflows, we also recommend checking out our interview with the artist, where he showed us the production process behind the aforementioned animation of dancing Jinx, explaining how the sequence was made with Blender and MotionBuilder.
