Ubisoft's Splinter Cell Movie Canceled Due to Budget & Script

Twelve years of effort went down the drain.

Video game movie adaptations might be a sensation, a flop, or, worst, dead before they make their way to the bigger screen. Twelve years after its official announcement, Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell movie is now officially canceled.

It’s not your fault to double-check the combination of “Splinter Cell” and “movie.” Due to a lack of updates or exposure, it might sound like something new despite the fact it has been in the works for over a decade. Recently, Basil Iwanyk, a producer of the movie, which would have Tom Hardy star Sam Fisher, confirmed to The Direct that the movie had fallen apart.

"That movie would have been awesome... Just couldn't get it right, script-wise, budget-wise. But it was going to be great. We had a million different versions of it, but it was going to be hardcore and awesome. That's one of the ones that got away, which is really sad."

Although the live-action adaptation has gone, Splinter Cell fans still have something to look forward to, as Splinter Cell Deathwatch, the anime series produced by Netflix, will drop sometime in 2025, and it received a first-look trailer in September.

As fellow developer Riot Games enjoys the massive attention and acclaim of the Arcane show, do you believe Ubisoft can taste a bit of sweetness with the upcoming animated series?
