Ubisoft to Release 9 Assassin's Creed Games in The Next 5 Years

Allegedly, four out of those nine might get launched next year.

Within the gaming industry and beyond, it's well known that while some game developers prefer to take their time, dedicating years to perfecting each aspect of their games, others are constrained by their own size and the impatience of their investors and forced into a constant "conveyor belt" production mode, having to churn out multiple new games every single year just to remain afloat. The prime example of such a studio is, of course, Ubisoft, which, according to a new report, plans to take this approach to the next level by releasing nine Assassin's Creed games in the next five years.

Ubisoft

The report in question comes from YouTuber JorRaptor, who compiled a mix of rumors, insider information, and officially confirmed Assassin's Creed games into a convenient list revealing that not just one, not two, but nine games are set to hit the shelves by the end of 2029, with four of those titles allegedly slated for launch in 2025.

The confirmed titles include Shadows, Jade, Invictus, and Codename Hexe, all of which the studio has officially acknowledged to be in the works. The list also features several rumored projects, such as a remake of Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Nebula, a game with three distinct settings (India, the Aztec Empire, and the Mediterranean), a remake of the original Assassin's Creed, Raid, a free-to-play co-op PvE game with characters from the AC universe, and Echoes, a multiplayer experience powered by Ubisoft's cloud technology, Scalar.

Not mentioned on the list is also Assassin's Creed Infinity, a central hub for future installments of the series, bringing our total count to ten franchise-related projects. For context, the mainline Assassin's Creed series has 13 released titles, with the last ten launching over the span of 12 years, making one question whether Ubisoft has the capacity necessary to accomplish all of its plans by 2029.

Taking into account the fact that the past year has been one of the most disappointing, to put it mildly, in Ubisoft's history, with its titles underperforming financially one after another and various controversies erupting almost weekly, the most obvious conclusion one can come to is that the studio is being pressured by its investors to capitalize on its arguably most well-known franchise in order to avoid collapsing entirely.

Combined with recent reports about Tencent's buyout talks moving forward behind the scenes but being stalled by the Guillemot family, which reportedly wants to retain control over the company as part of the acquisition, it seems somewhat unlikely that Ubisoft will be able to ship ten new Assassin's Creed projects by the end of the decade, which is probably for the best in the grand scheme of things, considering the reputation of the worst offender among the "overstayed-their-welcome-for-many-years" video game series, Call of Duty.

And what do you think about the list? Will Ubisoft be able to ship ten AC projects by 2029? Does the community actually need ten new AC projects? Tell us in the comments!
