Unreal-Powered FPS Game With Old-School Visuals

Solo Developer Yuan Cui showcased Painted In Blood, a WiP first-person shooter with horror elements.

Today, let's have a look at some of the incredible demos shared by Yuan Cui, a Solo Game Developer and a Concept Artist with 12 years of experience, over the past few days. With these demos, the developer showcased the gameplay of Painted In Blood, an Unreal Engine-powered first-person shooter with horror elements and an old-school visual style, resembling retro games from the 90s and early 2000s.

Currently in its early stages of development, the game promises atmospheric and pixelated levels and challenging and fast-paced combat, with a focus on the player's movement and environmental awareness. The developer also notes that Painted In Blood's combat encounters would require a careful approach, encouraging one to plan ahead to claim victory.

"All the sprites characters are made in 3D first then separated and rendered into 2D," commented Yuan on how character sprites were made. "Now with a bit of AI to fill some of the texture details it can be even faster. Art basically isn't a big issue for me but I picked up a lot of coding knowledge along the way of doing this project."

At the moment, the developer plans to focus on polishing the gameplay, hoping to release a trailer/demo for the entire level in the near future. We highly encourage you to visit Yuan's YouTube channel and Reddit page so as not to miss any future updates.
