Around 10% of the studio's workforce is about to get axed, which supposedly won't affect the development of Little Nightmares III.
Much like snow in the beloved Christmas tune, the merciless scythe of layoffs shows no signs of stopping, this time slicing its way through Supermassive Games, the developer of Until Dawn and The Quarry, which announced it has begun the process of decimating its workforce.

According to the studio's recent statement, they expect to lose 36 employees in the near future. Unfortunately – though entirely expectedly – they haven't offered any concrete reason for why these unlucky three dozen are being shown the door, with the announcement falling back on the usual vague PR-approved lingo of "difficult decisions" and the game industry being a "challenging and ever-evolving environment."
Based on the latest available numbers, shared before Supermassive laid off 90 people in early 2024, the studio had around 260-350 employees, meaning this latest round of cuts will hit roughly 10-15% of the entire staff. As a result, the release of Directive 8020, an upcoming interactive survival horror game and the fifth entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology, is being postponed until the first half of 2026.
As a silver lining, Supermassive confirmed that the layoffs won't affect the development of Little Nightmares III, which has already been delayed once, and its October 10, 2025, release date remains unchanged.
