The release added Overpass and Vertigo maps to Deathmatch and Casual game modes, the Wingman game mode, and more.
Valve recently rolled out a small update for Counter-Strike 2, the highly anticipated Source 2-powered edition of the iconic first-person shooter, first announced back in March. The update in question introduced two beloved maps, Overpass and Vertigo, along with the popular Wingman modem and addressed various bugs that were identified during the beta testing phase.
Thanks to the addition of Overpass, which, much like its version in CS:GO, featured multiple puddles, players with access to the closed beta had the opportunity to experience the game's improved water physics firsthand. According to the demos shared by said players, the water now behaves more realistically, replicating how it would flow and create ripples in the real world.
Interestingly, the updated water mechanics also simulate the ripples left behind as players walk through it. This has sparked speculation among fans that the enhanced physics could potentially be used to track enemy players, as the ripples might act as obvious indicators of their movements.
Here's a great cinematic tour of the new Overpass map shared by Virre CSGO that shows the new map in all its glory:
Some players also noted that the clocks on the map showed the same time of 8:24, interpreting the number as a hint from Valve that Counter-Strike 2 will be released on August 24th. While some might say that this theory is far-fetched, it's worth noting that the game's launch is scheduled for sometime during the summer. Therefore, it is not entirely implausible that this could indeed be Valve's clever way of revealing the release date a little earlier to those who were attentive enough.
The release also features:
- Removed Nuke and Office
- Enabled undo/redo buttons
- Added the "Secondary Fire Hold" option to the input settings menu
- The halftime countdown timer is now visible
- Fixed a case where the camera would not interpolate correctly when switching between chase and roaming spectator modes.
- Fixed a case where the viewmodel weapon would disappear for one frame when switching in-eye spectator targets.
- Added leading zeroes on the StatTrak module
- Glove patterns and wear now more closely align with CS:GO versions
- Various improvements to foil stickers
- Various adjustments to the size of stickers applied to weapons
Earlier, Valve also introduced a fun ability to cook roast chickens by throwing Molotov cocktails at them:
