V-Ray 7 For 3ds Max Released

Introducing support for rendering 3D Gaussian Splats, caustics support in V-Ray GPU, virtual tours, updates to the V-Ray Frame Buffer, Chaos Scatter, and more.

Chaos has officially launched V-Ray 7 for 3ds Max, offering a preview of the future direction for the entire V-Ray product family. We've covered most of the new features in our previous article on the V-Ray 7 beta, so let's take a quick look at the key highlights of this official release.

While there are plenty of third-party add-ons for working with 3DGS data in Blender, Unity, and Unreal Engine, V-Ray is among the first DCC applications to offer native support for the technology. Using V-Ray 7's powerful ray tracing capabilities, you can now seamlessly blend 3D Gaussian Splats of real-life captured environments together with computer-generated objects.

If you're experienced with 3D rendering but not deeply involved in the technical details, learn how 3DGS works in this official blog post.

V-Ray 7 delivers faster, more efficient rendering and introduces a brand-new Caustics solver in V-Ray GPU, allowing for realistic reflections and refractions in both production and interactive rendering. V-Ray 7 also comes with numerous other lighting and rendering improvements, including enhanced support for V-Ray Luminaires and an upgraded PRG sky model for V-Ray Sun/Sky. The new algorithm also automatically detects and removes bright pixels (fireflies) during rendering.

The V-Ray Frame Buffer introduces a new Vignette Layer, ready-made and non-destructive color correction presets, and support for custom-shaped region rendering. With advanced instancing and distribution options in Chaos Scatter, you can now achieve your desired look more quickly, offering greater control and efficiency.

Finally, V-Ray 7 brings a new feature for creating immersive, interactive virtual tours directly from its interface. You can customize your tours by adding floor plans, personalizing hotspots, and transitions, and incorporating contextual details and design elements.
