Introducing a new procedural Night Sky system, support for clipping 3D Gaussian Splats, AI-powered PBR material generation, and more.
Following Chaos' release of V-Ray 7 for 3ds Max, kickstarting the new generation of the V-Ray product family, the latest major update for the renderer is now available, bringing several important new features.
A key highlight of V-Ray 7 for 3ds Max, update 2, is the introduction of experimental AI-powered features. The AI Material Generator allows you to upload a photo of a real-world surface and instantly transform it into a render-ready PBR material. Additionally, the AI Enhancer is designed to improve the look of people and vegetation in your renders.
Chaos
Now, you can create realistic and astronomically precise night skies with ease with Night Sky, complete with stars, moon, and even the Milky Way. Depending on your project requirements, you can set the night sky elements based on real-world settings such as date, time, and location, or by adjusting individual elements.
Support for 3D Gaussian Splatting, introduced in V-Ray 7 for 3ds Max, has been expanded. Now, you can trim your splats directly within 3ds Max, effortlessly removing any unwanted parts.
Scatter now features Clusters, letting you group scattered objects in three ways: Generate mode uses noise to create clusters; Color map mode assigns objects by map colors; and Layer paint mode lets you paint clusters directly into 3ds Max.
With the new VRay2SidedTex, you can easily assign different colors or maps to a surface depending on the orientation of its normals, distinguishing between the front face and back face. Also, VRayMtl gets the OpenPBR shading mode.
