Valve Allowed Fan-Made Half-Life Twin-Stick Shooter to Appear on Steam

The top-down game Codename: Loop will feature familiar and monsters as well as different perspectives.

Developer PinkyDev (Daniel Almenara) shared that Valve had allowed for the creator's fan-made Half-Life twin-stick shooter game Codename: Loop to be released on Steam when it's ready.

Codename: Loop is a top-down shooter based on Half-Life. The creator is focusing on linear campaigns with some random events and on user-created campaigns. Complete with BSP support, the game will also have a roguelike mode after the campaign is done.

There is no definitive story yet, but the idea is described by the author as "G-Man confined Gordon Freeman inside an ever-changing loop to test if he is able to escape from it to ensure that he is a truly worth hiring candidate."

PinkyDev will also be adding more perspectives hoping to provide more freedom to the mappers, with a third-person over-the-shoulder view and a first-person view for custom maps.

Players will be able to create custom levels with the documentation still in development.

There is no release date for Codename: Loop yet, although PinkyDev is hoping to publish a demo later this year.
