Take a look at this gorgeous 3D model of a room created by 3D Artist MistKrieg using Blender. The artwork is inspired by a graphic novel Soma, written by Fernando Llor and illustrated by Carles Dalmau, and presents an example of a masterful translation of hand-painted comic book-style graphics to 3D.
As shared by the artist, shadows in the environment were hand-painted so as to match the concept. However, for the character, they were made using dynamic lights. The creator generously shared the nodes setup:
