"This year's collection of keynotes, panels, talks, and workshops is without doubt one of our finest," said Conference Director Dr. Maria Elena Gutierrez. "I urge everyone to visit our website to check out the complete line-up."
AI, VFX, and the Future of the Pipeline
NVIDIA's global media and entertainment VP Richard Kerris and Runway co-founder/co-CEO Cristobal Valenzuela will sit down for a keynote fireside chat titled "Every Pixel Will Be Generated," digging into generative models and where AI is taking the industry. Also on the AI track: Amazon Web Services' Gretchen Libby, Flawless co-founder Scott Mann, BOT VFX founder Hitesh Shah, and the National Film Board of Canada's Eloi Champagne.
On the VFX side, expect Oscar winner Andrew Jackson walking through the work on Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," Jerome Chen presenting "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," Paul Lambert and Mag Sarnowska on "Project Hail Mary," Hal Hickel on "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu," and Eric Saindon on "Avatar: Fire and Ash." Episodic VFX gets its own spotlight too, with Rodeo FX's Joseph Kasparian and Julien Hery covering "Masters of the Universe" and "Avatar: The Last Airbender," and Dadi Einarsson talking "House of the Dragon."
Games on the Main Stage
Insomniac Games' Brian Wyser and Brian Mullen will talk about their work on Marvel's "Wolverine". Hands-On and Worth Planning Around
There's a fully functioning virtual production stage with LED walls this year, put together with Sony Corporation Japan and Texas A&M's Virtual Production Institute. Stop-motion director Chris Lavis ("The Girl Who Cried Pearls") is running a 4-day Stop-Motion Puppet Lab, and if you register, the code PUPPETLAB20PCT gets you 20% off a spot.
Other workshops worth flagging: Kieran Belshaw on building the cities from "Game of Thrones," Pixar's Dylan Sisson on RenderMan looks, and Skydance Animation's Noelle Triaureau on how color drives storytelling in animation.
Also Showing Up
Two-time Oscar winner Roger Deakins and his creative partner James Ellis Deakins (aka Team Deakins) are appearing as special guests. Aardman's Merlin Crossingham will talk about the challenges of making a stop-motion feature. On the animation side, expect previews from Disney's "Hexed," LAIKA's "Wildwood," and a first look at films like "Toy Story 5," "Hoppers," and "Forgotten Island."
