Voice of Joel from The Last Of Us Wants to Make His Own Video Game

Could Troy Baker be as prolific in this area as he is in acting?

Troy Baker has an impressive portfolio, having acted in BioShock Infinite, Uncharted, Persona 4, Death Stranding, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and now MOUSE: P.I. for Hire. But his most recognizable role is probably Joel in The Last of Us – a game that could potentially one day be rivaled by Baker’s own.

Speaking with Eurogamer, he revealed that he'd like to create a game studio to tell his stories, like Abubakar Salim, who played Bayek in Assassin's Creed Origins and started Surgent Studios later, which produced Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, among other tales.

"I love Abu, I played the hell out of his games," Baker tells Eurogamer. "He is someone who has a deep passion for games, and has found a way to turn that into a great business endeavour for him. I've had an incredible opportunity working with the best in this industry, it's insane - Ken Levine, Hideo Kojima, Neil Druckmann, Todd Howard, Vince Zampella - these people are paragons of the industry. I've worked with these people, and I've learned so much from them.

"And, what I am excited about doing is taking those tenets, taking those principles of wildly successful titles - not just in terms of sales and figures, but the stories that have defined the industry - and being able to innovate and replicate and emulate those processes and practices into the stories that I want to tell."

And this is not just a dream: Baker is "beginning the conversations" of what story he wants to tell, and with whom, but he's "not rushed."

"I am going to take my time, because I want to make sure that, when I finally do tell a story, it's one of just as high a caliber of those that I am trying to emulate."

He also shared his thoughts with Kinda Funny Gamescast, saying he wants to "proliferate the wisdom and the experience those other great studios – and bad – have given me and be able to fold that into new experiences and try my hand at it."

He's just at the beginning of this path and is taking it slow: "Because I've seen a lot of people that have rushed into opportunities, and I want to do it right. Especially if I'm going to create a studio where other people are going to be responsible for my choices, I have to make the right ones."
