Arcane Season 2 jumps into global themes, changing people's lives forever. One of the most memorable scenes in the show was Viktor becoming the Herald, when his face was split by an unfeeling mask.
This emotional sequence wasn't any less traumatic in pre-production, as Alexis Wanneroy, Head of Character Animation at Fortiche, showed us in the early mask transformation. He considers pre-production one of the most exciting parts of animation because it's where the team get to experiment and shape the character.
"This test was a super fun challenge: figuring out how Viktor’s mask could emerge directly from his face in a believable and expressive way. It’s these early stages that help us unlock deeper layers of personality and storytelling through movement."
Fortiche loves sharing behind-the-scenes looks, and this is a great inspiration and help for artists. Last month, we saw how the team made its animations look so realistic, and before, we enjoyed the footage of how animators act out references for the show.
