As the artist shared, combining the MPM solver with Gas Temperature Update in Houdini 20.5 to create a unique clumping and rigid lava flow can be computationally intensive, but leads to impressive results.
This project is entirely point-based with no meshing or UVs involved, with 2.2 million points simulated over 2000 frames, taking about 20 hours. The final output was rendered using Arnold for Houdini.
