Water Simulation Created for Low-Poly Game World
Arda Yn.'s project seems to be going well.
We've posted plenty of water over the years, but low-poly liquids are not usually present on our pages. It's time to fix it: take a look at this water simulation in a fully destructible world built by Arda Yn. for their video game.
To make it happen, the developer researched how water is usually handled in voxel-based worlds but couldn't find much, so their own trial and error led to the path with 3D cellular automata, active cell optimization, and marching squares for meshing.
"Currently, there is no overly realistic 'water physics', but I managed to achieve a result that works smoothly and looks good – I think it's fine for such a game."
Speaking of the game, it will be a sandbox with the terrain you can destroy, a base-building system, and survival mechanics. Minecraft lovers will love it, although it's far from completion still.
