The expectations are very high.
Baldur's Gate 3 is three weeks away, and fans are really excited about it, both because it's a long-awaited continuation of the famous series and because Larian Studios have so far shown their expertise in the best possible way. So high are expectations, in fact, that some developers warn players to not make the game a standard for RPGs in advance, as it is an "anomaly".
The Fextralife team had a chance to play the full game already and had a lot of positive feedback to share. At the end of the video, they say players are still underestimating Baldur's Gate 3, and to them, it is going to be Game of the Year "by a landslide".
"I don't know if it'll win the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards because Baldur's Gate 3 is not as much of a mainstream game as something like Breath of the Wild or Starfield. But for me already, not even having played half the game, not even having played Starfield, not even having played some of these other games coming out later this year, it's Game of the Year."
In response to such high praise, Larian's founder Swen Vincke thanked Fextralife, saying: "The pressure is on now – we'll try not to fuck up."
Vincke was also appreciative of Rock Paper Shotgun's Jeremy Peel's opinion. He said it "has the makings of an all-timer. It’s an unprecedented meeting of immersive sim-like systems with Bioware-level branching cinema."
Players will be able to see if it's true soon enough – the game will be out on August 3 for PC and September 6 for PS5.
