Windows 11 January 2026 Update is not Allowing Some PCs to Boot
Microsoft is already aware of the problem.
Microsoft has begun collecting the data to solve the issue of the January KB5074109 Windows 11 update that is preventing some PCs from booting, requiring manual recovery.
The update was released on January 13. It was a mandatory security update for Windows 11 25H2/24H2 that was automatically installed on PCs, many of which started showing the message "Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart," making it impossible to complete startup.
According to Windows Latest, the good news is that this problem is affecting only a small number of computers, the bad news is that the update has more problems that are affecting others, like freezing Outlook POP or showing a black screen that lasts for a second or two.

If your computer has been affected by this, you need to use the Windows Recovery option or perform a clean reinstall. And if you don't know if your PC has this update, but it's presenting some issues, you can open Settings > System > About > Specifications, and if the build number is 26200.7623, then you have the January update.
