Wikipedia Co-Founder Has Been Banned from Editing the Site
He was trying to make the site more balanced.
Wikipedia is a source of information that everyone knows or has used at some point in their life. It was founded in 2001 by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger, and actually the name was created by Sanger, combining the Hawaiian word "wiki", which means "quick," and the word "encyclopedia."
One of its defining features is that anyone can edit it, but not the co-founder himself: Sanger has been banned from making any changes in a hilarious turn of events
At first, Sanger said it was an indefinite ban, according to him, "by the 'consensus' of a mob," and that it wasn't fully explained why it had happened. That same day, the block was apparently lifted.
Nonetheless, later on, he was blocked again and said that it was official, but "the charges were lies and misrepresentations."
It's important to mention that Sanger had started the WikiProject Intellectual Diversity project to reinforce Wikipedia's original purpose, which was to provide knowledge neutrally and transparently, especially because, in later years, some people have thought that the site leans toward left-wing ideas.
Sanger said that he feels more sorry for Wikipedia because he was trying to fix the site, but it was overrun by bias and censorship. He wrote about the whole thing for The Free Press, but you can read it only if you are willing to pay the subscription fee.
