As fans have recently noticed, Blizzard's Narrative Director Steve Danuser, who guided the storyline of World of Warcraft, has left the company.
Neither Blizzard, nor Danuser officially announced the departure, so it was rather a discovery made by players of the beloved franchise. According to Danuser's LinkedIn profile, the prominent developer left Blizzard in November 2023.
Speaking with PC Gamer, Danuser confirmed that he parted ways with Blizzard but added that there's "nothing particularly noteworthy" to know about the departure.
"Wanting to continue working remotely was a factor, as I'm a big believer in the effectiveness of online team collaboration," Danuser shared with PC Gamer. "But eight years is a long time to work on a single game, and while helping to architect WoW's story direction for the next several years was challenging and rewarding, more and more lately I've felt the itch to stretch my creativity in new directions."
Danuser also said that he'd miss the narrative team he had at Blizzard and all the friends who are still there. He didn't share his plans for the future, just noticed that he's "looking forward to exciting things in 2024".
"I was fortunate enough to be able to relax and recharge over the holiday season. As for what's next, I am not announcing anything yet, but I look forward to exciting things in 2024," Danuser said.
Speaking of Blizzard, the company has recently been criticized by its fans once again, after the studio set a $30 price tag on different portal colors in Diablo 4.
