Goldhawk Interactive has released Xenonauts 2 on Steam in Early Access. This is a retro turn-based tactics game, a sequel to the 2014 sci-fi title, where you are in charge of a multinational military organization tasked with eliminating aliens invading the planet.
"It is 2009 – the Cold War continues, and the Berlin Wall still stands. In the shadows, a secret organization works beyond arbitrary political boundaries to gather information about a greater threat to humanity. Mysterious sightings of unidentified flying objects and unknown beings have grown more common, coinciding with escalating international tensions and panic. Those who report such sightings frequently disappear without a trace, and it is clear that the aliens grow bolder with each passing day. Time is of the essence."
Here, you will expand and manage a network of bases, research technologies, and develop your forces to fight the ET threat. Engage with the enemy to learn more about it and then use it against the species.
The developers promise a large variety of enemy types, "each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and fighting styles." Aliens are not the only ones you'll be up against: human agents known as Cleaners help them in their endeavors. You can quickly eliminate active threats or secure bodies and alien technology to HQ for autopsies and reverse-engineering. The choices and consequences are all yours.
Even after launching the game, Goldhawk Interactive is busy. It provided a roadmap, shedding light on what's going to be added to Xenonauts 2 later:
