The new one is as massive though.
Nier director Yoko Taro surprised fans by ditching his iconic Emil mask and coming to Anime Expo 2023 wearing an equally huge leprechaun head. Apparently, he lost his mask at a bar in Los Angeles and replaced it with the one found in a costume store.
According to IGN, Taro blames a producer from Fuji TV who he was drinking with.
“Leave it to LA to have this specialist store just for masks. And so we went into that store and there was the biggest mask like literally the biggest one they had was one that was sitting up on the shelves and had been there for 30 years,” Taro said.
The $120 mask was a "going-away present that the store owner's grandmother had gifted to the business." Taro thinks it is possibly possessed by "the spirit of the store owner's grandmother or a cousin who apparently died in 1945."
