The Godot Engine's terrain system received a major update, introducing long-anticipated features like a foliage instancer, paintable rotation and scale, and other improvements.
Terrain3D
In case you missed it, Terrain3D is a Godot Engine extension designed to set up landscapes in official engine builds with GDScript, C#, and any language supported by Godot, launched by Cory Petkovsek last year.
Recently, Terrain3D underwent a significant update and received several anticipated features, kindly previewed by Cory Petkovsek. Here's the list of this release's highlights:
- Paintable foliage instancing
- Paintable scale and rotation
- Terrain3DObjects' children track terrain sculpting changes
- Movable asset dock to manage textures and meshes
- Usable de-tiling
If you're looking to get started with Terrain3D, Cory published two video tutorials, covering the fundamentals of the tool, such as installation, setting up textures, importing, sculpting, and basic operations. The second tutorial is focused on advanced usage like blended texturing, auto shading, holes, navigation, and more.
Also, Terrain3D just got accepted into the Godot Asset Library and now you can install it without leaving Godot.
