You Can Smell Games with This Device

GameScent also works with movies and anime.

Ever wondered what Skyrim smells like? You're about to find out with GameScent, an unusual AI-powered device that releases scents while you're playing. It provides maximum immersion that "attacks" your nose so you can feel like a true adventurer or a soldier.

GameScent's AI analyzes game audio in real time and emits scents accordingly. It's useful not only for games: it can also be used for movies, anime, and TV shows. The developers promise great compatibility with PCs, consoles, TVs, and soon VR headsets.

"The process begins with GameScent’s state-of-the-art adaptor capturing audio in real-time. This audio is then processed by the AI, which identifies key cues and events. Within seconds, the chosen scent is released, creating an instantaneous and synchronized sensory experience."

It has its limits, though. There are 6 cartridges inside the device, responsible for the scents of forests, storms, gunfire, explosions, the fumes of a race, and clean air (meant to neutralize any other odors). According to Dexerto, there will also be Blood, Ocean, Sports Arena, and Fresh Cut Grass aromas available.

“Studies have shown that the sense of smell imprints in long-term memory more strongly than anything else. With GameScent, we’re hoping to elevate gamers’ experiences to be more exciting and memorable than they ever have been before,” said GameScent's president Casey Bunce.

I guess players really want to have scents accompany them in their gaming experience. Do you remember that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles controller that smells of pizza? In the future, games might become even more immersive with Sony's gamepad feature that emulates temperatures.

GameScent is available on Amazon and Best Buy for $150 at the moment. Find out more on its website and join our 80 Level Talent platform and our Telegram channel, follow us on InstagramTwitter, and LinkedIn, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
