What does it mean for the release date?
Team Cherry
Hollow Knight: Silksong has been one of the most anticipated games for years, a lack of updates from Team Cherry, based in South Australia, worsening the wait. We finally got the release window during Nintendo Direct – 2025 – but the exact date is still a mystery.
However, an unexpected nugget of information revealed that the game will soon be playable... at an Australian museum.
As reported by IGN, you will be able to play Silksong at ACMI, Australia's national museum of screen culture, in September. The exhibition, called Game Worlds, will include displays demonstrating its design and artistic direction.
"From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!" said ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell.
Here is a tiny sneak peek – a sprite sheet that will be available at the exhibition:

So, what does it mean for Hollow Knight: Silksong's release date? It makes sense to assume that the game will be out before ACMI lets hordes of fans play it, so perhaps we will see it on our screens in August, a popular time for releases.
