In November, Nintendo shared that the company was partnering with Sony Pictures to bring The Legend of Zelda games to the world of cinema, making a live-action adaptation. Following the footsteps of the Super Mario Bros. movie, this new venture aims to revive the era of video game-based movies.

While there is not much detail available about the movie at the moment, Wes Ball, the Director of the upcoming adaptation, has confirmed that instead of drawing inspiration from traditional fantasy films like The Lord of the Rings, he intends to infuse the whimsical style of famous Japanese Animator Hayao Miyazaki into The Legend of Zelda's live-action adaptation.

"This awesome fantasy-adventure movie that isn't like Lord of the Rings, it's its own thing. I've always said, I would love to see a live-action Miyazaki. That wonder and whimsy that he brings to things, I would love to see something like that," he shared with Entertainment Weekly.

During the same interview, Ball shared that his entire life has been leading up to this moment. He emphasized that he and the creative team behind The Legend of Zelda movie are not pursuing this project simply because they can, but rather to create something truly exceptional. As for the release timeline, Ball mentioned that the movie's production would commence in earnest after the completion of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which is currently in post-production.

"It's going to be awesome. My whole life has led up to this moment. I grew up on Zelda and it is the most important property, I think, that's untapped IP, if you will. So we very much are working hard to do something. We're not just trying to do it because we can. We want to make something really special," Ball said.
